Today’s smart phones are great for catching up on email, keeping in touch via Twitter, and Facebook, killing time playing Angry Birds, watching videos, or listening to music. But they are also handy for IT professionals who have to handle emergencies away from their desks. Some of these tools are for convenience such as accessing a SMB file share or converting numbers from one format to another. Others let you manage most emergency tasks from anywhere there is a network connection. There are hundreds of apps in the Market and these are the ones that I have come across and used. Most of these apps are free. Some also have paid versions as well as paid components.
